Virtual Power Plants: The Key to Securing America’s Energy Future

WASHINGTON, D.C. Local Solar for All (LS4A), a coalition dedicated to empowering American energy consumers through clean energy solutions, issued a statement regarding the Department of Energy’s Pathways to Commercial Liftoff report on the role virtual power plants (VPPs) have to play in our energy future.

Robin Dutta, campaign director for LS4A, issued the following statement:

“With more electric vehicles on the road, the obsolescence of polluting fossil fuel plants, and worsening weather patterns, the demand for electricity continues to increase every year while our aging grid is struggling to keep up. Virtual power plants (VPPs), which include technologies like local solar and storage, can be part of the solution for a more cost-effective and reliable grid for the future.

“We applaud the Department of Energy for their leadership and the DOE Loan Programs Office for prioritizing access to technologies that can be employed as VPPs. Local solar and storage, when configured as VPPs, can simplify the transition to all-electric buildings and electric vehicles while slashing climate pollution and improving our environment. We must work to boost DER adoption across the country.”
